Knit Wrist Warmers and Matching Messy Bun Beanie
Happy birthday to me! My aunt sent me 2 skeins of this delicious Zauberball Crazy Cotton yarn for my birthday and to celebrate I decided to make a fun, coordinating set of wrist warmers and a messy bun beanie out of it. The self-striping yarn already makes quite the statement on its own, so I wanted to use a pattern that wouldn’t detract from the beautiful colors, but would also provide more interest and texture than just a simple stockinette stitch. I decided to create my own pattern using a combination of simple ribbing and a diagonal seed stitch. I hope you like it as much as I do!
Wrist Warmer Pattern
SIZES
One size
GAUGE
~6 stitches and 10 rows = 1 inch in diagonal seed stitch
MATERIALS
~100g of DK weight yarn for wrist warmers + ~50g of DK weight yarn for the hat - I used Zauberball Crazy Cotton
Size US1 40″ circular needle (for magic loop) - note: I tend to have a fairly loose stitch, so you may want to use larger needles to obtain the same gauge
Yarn or darning needle
Scissors
ABBREVIATIONS
K - knit
P - purl
K2tog - knit 2 together
m1l - make one left: pick up the bar between the end stitches on the left and right needles by inserting the left needle from front to back, so that the picked-up stitch sits on the left needle in the same orientation as the other stitches. Knit through the back of the new stitch, twisting it.
m1r - make one right: pick up the bar between the end stitches on the left and right needles by inserting the left needle under the bar from back to front, so that the picked-up stitch sits in the opposite orientation from the other stitches. Knit through the front of the new stitch, twisting it.
